To each session you should dress comfortable and in layers.  Wearing a supportive pair of running shoes (and bra for women) is a must as well.  Bring with you a towel, lots of water and any other personal items you may need.  It is a must that your shoes are clean and free of dirt…indoor shoes only.  Anyone wearing shoes that were worn outside will not be permitted to participate.  Please note “Believe Fitness and Nutrition” is not responsible for any items that are lost, left behind or stolen.

You will also need to bring with you a pair of dumbbells

(3 or 5 lbs for women & 8 lbs for men).

What should I expect my first session?

With anything new, it is very common to experience some anxiety going into your first session.  Especially when you are coming to ‘boot camp’.  Just relax and have fun.  The classes are meant to be intense and give you that push to of your comfort zone.  Listen to your body and pace yourself, is the best thing you can do.

How many participates will be participating?

Registration is limited to approximately 20 participants in each session.  During the sessions your instructor will demonstrate the exercises and will be helping participates perfect their form on their exercise.

Who shouldn’t be participating in this program?

Anyone with injuries or medical conditions that participation in any physical activity program could be dangerous to their health and well being should not participate.  If you are not sure if this applies to you please consult your physician before participating.

What about nutrition?

Nutrition is a very important factor…it is actually the most important.  Results from any exercise program come from 70% nutrition, 20% exercise and 10% genetics. The nutrition gives you the energy to do your workouts and the nutrients to get everything you can from them.  Although your workouts are a crucial factor, nutrition needs your attention as well.  Be organized and ready for your meals.  Everyday aim to improve your eating habits.  Think about what you can add in instead of what you should take away or avoid.  Even small changes go a long way.

What should I eat before my Session?

Making sure you have a meal or snack at lest 1 hour before boot camp can determine how you feel during the session.  If you don’t eat, you will quickly run low on energy and possible won’t feel very good during the session.  A healthy meal of carbs and protein will keep your energy high and help you power through your session.  The closer you are to your workout your meal/snack should have more carbohydrates then protein and fat.

Everyone is different but try these suggestions:

Whole Wheat toast (at least 2 g fiber/slice) and 1 tbsp all natural peanut butter

or almond butter

Apple or banana with 1 tbsp natural peanut butter or almond butter

Energy Bar (no more than 14 g of sugar per bar)

Oatmeal with milk

Poached egg on whole wheat toast

Should I Eat after my session?

Oddly enough yes.   Especially if you are attending boot camp to lose weight it seems kind of backwards to eat before and after your workout.  But it is very important.  You need to replace your energy stores after your workout to make sure you don’t ‘crash’ later that day.  A healthy meal or snack within 30 minutes to 1 hour will keep you feeling great all day.

Here are some suggestions:

1 cup chocolate milk

Low fat yogurt with granola

Whole grain cereal (try Kashi Go Lean) with banana and milk

1 oz Low fat cheese and a few whole wheat crackers

Nuts and dried fruits

I am interested in a nutrition program as well?  Do you offer one?

In the fall of 2009, Believe Fitness and Nutrition is planning on launching a 12 week nutrition program that will take you step by step through your weight loss journey.  Giving you sound advice and information to make your journey the road to a new healthy lifestyle that is maintainable.

When will I start to see results?

How quickly you ‘see’ results is dependent on a lot of factors, including how much weight you want to lose, your current exercise regime, your nutrition and others.  Most of our participates tell us the ‘feel’ a difference and have more energy and are sleeping better within the first few weeks!  Visually seeing results takes a bit longer…your body is transforming into a lean and strong body…this takes time…although your body composition is transforming on the inside you need a bit of patience for the changes on the outside.  Usually within 6-8 weeks you will ‘see’ results’.  Sometimes sooner depending on the factors mentioned above.  Get to know your body…feel those biceps and legs…poke around, good things are happening and you will feel it brewing underneath the surface!

Should I be exercising during the week?

If so what should I be doing?

Yes, it is recommended that you exercise during the week especially if your goal is to lose body fat.  Depending on your goals you should aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day.  Avoid strength training the day following (and the day before) your boot camp to allow muscle to recover.  However, cardiovascular training (walking, jogging, etc) is fine.  To get the most out of your training time you should work slightly out of your comfort zone: breathing heavier then normal but still able to carry on a conversation.  The best way to work new activities into your day is to schedule into it.

If friends or family would like to join US for a

Session are, they able too?

After the first week of camp 2 spaces will be available for anyone who would like to join us for a session to ‘try it out”.  You must reserve their spot in the session by emailing Jill.  Cost of attending these sessions will be $12 per session.  Anyone can start the program at anytime as long as there is space available in a session.

If I miss a session, am I able to make it up?

Yes, if you miss a session you are allowed to join another session to make it up.  For example, you miss you Sunday am session, you can attend a Wednesday pm or Thursday am class to make up this session.  All session must be made up within the time frame of your sessions (i.e. 12 weeks).  All you need to do is email me and notify me you will be attending a class that you were not originally signed up for.  This allows me to make sure that not too many people arrive for one session.  I also ask if you will be absent to email me so I know that I can accommodate those who need to switch.
